Villa Le Fontanelle · Florence, Tuscany

July 2020, which was not a year that made weddings easy. This one happened anyway: a terracotta villa in the hills, a wrought-iron arch with Florence inside it, a ceremony under white drapes and a garden lit with a thousand bulbs until well after midnight.

Nobody needs reminding what July 2020 was. Guests came from fewer countries than had been planned, and the ones who came had all travelled through something to be there.

It shows in the photographs, and not in a way you would expect: there is more touching, more standing about together, less checking of phones. A wedding that has been moved twice is attended differently from one that has not.
