A small June wedding in the hills above Florence: an ochre villa at the end of a cypress avenue, black tie, apricot flowers, and children running the gravel until somebody brought a gelato cart out at eleven.

Fewer people is not a smaller wedding, it is a different one. Nobody is queueing, nothing has to be announced twice, and the afternoon has gaps in it — which is where most of the photographs on this page were made.
It also means the villa stays a house rather than becoming a venue. Doors are open, children go where they like, and the dinner table is one table.
