Everyone in cream,
and a valley
going gold
Villa Baroncino · Umbria
A stone house in Umbria at the end of September, when the light turns and the evenings get shorter fast. The dress code was cream and the flowers were orange, which meant that for about forty minutes at sunset the guests and the hillside were the same colour.

Asking a hundred people to wear cream is a gamble that pays off exactly once a day, and it pays off enormously. By the time the sun was on the hill everyone in the frame belonged to the same photograph.
The rest of it was Umbrian and unhurried: a cypress avenue to walk down, an aisle strewn with petals, dinner under the arches and a cake carried out in the dark.
