A borgo on a ridge,
and a violin
in the trees
Villa degli Albizi · Florence, Tuscany
Late September above a wooded valley: a small borgo with the hills falling away on both sides, a ceremony under an arch of white flowers with a violinist somewhere behind the olives, and a pergola of candles that stayed lit until the sparklers came out.

A wedding
with no
neighbours
The estate stands alone on its ridge, which does something to a September evening that no town venue can: the light goes, the valley goes blue, and there is not one other light in the frame. Everything you can see belongs to the wedding.
It also means dinner sits outdoors under a pergola rather than inside a hall, so the candles are the whole lighting plan. Photographing that is a question of not fighting it — you expose for the flame and let the rest go dark.
