A cello, and a
floor that never
emptied
A garden venue · Southern California
Burgundy and blush in December: a morning spread across two hotel rooms, a ceremony under a white arch against a hedge, a cellist playing them in — and then a reception where the dance floor filled at the first song and did not clear again.

A morning
in two
rooms
Two suites, two halves of a family, and about four hours in which nothing happens in one place. Photographing a morning like this is a question of moving without being seen to move, and of knowing which of the two rooms is about to matter.
The answer is usually the quieter one. Most of the frames here that are worth keeping were made in the ten minutes before somebody was ready, not in the hour after.
