Two floors up,
and a room full
of wisteria
Embassy Suites by Hilton Anaheim South · Garden Grove, California
A hotel wedding at Garden Grove at the end of November: a high floor with the sun coming flat through the glass, a lobby full of palms, and a ballroom hung with chandeliers dressed in white blossom. Navy, and a single blue thread through everything.

What a hotel
gives you
that a villa
does not
A hotel is not a garden, and the way to photograph one is not to pretend otherwise. It gives you glass, hard lines, reflections, a lift lobby with a hundred feet of window — and at the end of November it gives you the sun arriving sideways at four in the afternoon.
So the portraits here are made against architecture rather than against planting, and the softness comes from the light instead of from the background.
