Ninety-three
people, one
castle, no cars
Castello Il Borgia · Passignano sul Trasimeno, Umbria
A castle above Lake Trasimeno in July, and ninety-three people who never once had to get into a car. Getting ready in the frescoed rooms, the ceremony in the courtyard, dinner under the walls and the floor going until it was properly dark — all of it inside the same set of gates.

They asked for twenty or thirty minutes of the drinks hour before we went off for photographs. That is not a small request — it is the whole argument about how a wedding should be photographed, put politely.
So we took it in pieces: a few minutes after the ceremony, a few before dinner, a few at the end when the light went off the lake. Nobody spent an hour away from their own party, and the pictures are better for it, not worse.
