Olives, a valley,
and a hundred jars
of gypsophila

Casale de’ Pasquinelli · Lucca, Tuscany

A stone casale in the hills above Lucca, in the middle of June. The ceremony was outdoors with the valley behind it, dinner was laid on the grass under strings of bulbs, and the whole thing was decorated in white gypsophila and not much else, which at that scale stops being a filler flower and becomes the room.

From the gate onwards the day happened outside: aperitivo in the olives, vows in front of the hills, dinner on the lawn, and only the dancing under a roof.

June in Tuscany is the reason people plan it that way, and the reason it is a gamble. This one paid: the light lasted, the valley behind the arch stayed clear, and the tables were still full when the bulbs came on.
