A house where
they still make
harpsichords
Villa Bossi · Bodio Lomnago, Varese
A styled shoot at Villa Bossi, above Varese, in a house where harpsichords and fortepianos are still built and painted by hand. Frescoed rooms, a staircase under ivy, wisteria coming over the wall, and an instrument in almost every room — which is what the whole afternoon was built around. It was called Love Music Notes, and the title was the brief.

The rooms
you never
get on
the day
A wedding gives you the villa for about forty minutes, and most of that is spent between two doors. A shoot gives you the whole afternoon, so the billiard room, the writing desk and the piano stop being background and become subjects.
None of it is an accident: everything here was chosen slowly, which is exactly what makes it useful practice for a day where nothing can be.
